Pages 15&16: This is the first physical bridge of experience between one entry and another for the patient, but she still cannot remember how she had gotten the bruises (from being dragged away from her brother after having gone into hysterics, if you refer back to the previous page). After having read Oliver Sack's The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat in my Concept Studio 1 class, we were assigned to create some sort of work inspired by one of the stories. For those not familiar with the book, it is basically a collection of case studies of people with various neurological disorders and syndromes written by a neurologist. Having enjoyed my previous project in exploration of the artist's book and in finding particular fascination in "The Lost Mariner" and "A Matter of Identity," two tales regarding Korsakoff's Syndrome, I decided to create a journal written in the perspective of a patient at the local psychiatric clinic with this syndrome. Korsakoff's Syndrome is basically a memory disorder caused by a deficiency of thiamine.
