Journal Covers (front on right, back on left): I wanted to make a simple front and back cover that would allude to the syndrome (Korsakoff's [memory loss]) at hand, but would still offer some sense of mystery. Personally, I like the lack of text.
After having read Oliver Sack's The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat in my Concept Studio 1 class, we were assigned to create some sort of work inspired by one of the stories. For those not familiar with the book, it is basically a collection of case studies of people with various neurological disorders and syndromes written by a neurologist. Having enjoyed my previous project in exploration of the artist's book and in finding particular fascination in "The Lost Mariner" and "A Matter of Identity," two tales regarding Korsakoff's Syndrome, I decided to create a journal written in the perspective of a patient at the local psychiatric clinic with this syndrome. Korsakoff's Syndrome is basically a memory disorder caused by a deficiency of thiamine.
